Networking Expertise – Geospin Data Science Meetup 2021

Just as location intelligence derives its potential from the cross-linking of different data, the data science community also benefits from intensive exchange.

With this vision in mind, Geospin launched a Data Science Meetup. It offered experts from the field of Data Science a platform to present their projects, results and ideas. With four engaging presentations, different perspectives on Data Science were highlighted, all on applications of Data Science in the context of the energy industry. Afterwards, the approximately 50 participants were able to exchange ideas with the speakers in breakout rooms and ask questions. Thus, they could not only receive new impulses, but also provide valuable suggestions themselves.

These topics were on the agenda:

  • Location Intelligence: How the 'Where' supports the 'Why' (Niklas Goby, Geospin).

Niklay Goby, Geospin's Head of Data Science, took a closer look at the concept of location intelligence and Geospin's approaches in his presentation. What are the different spatial data and what is their value? How can you imagine the „spatial data science workflow"? And how does Geospin's location intelligence pipeline work?

  • Customer retention - Survival pays off (Dr. Christoph Metzger, Johannes Rosentreter, Frederik Schreck; Badenova)

The topic of customer retention takes on a high priority for energy provider. The Data Science & Analytics Trio from Badenova Dr. Christoph Metzger, Johannes Rosentreter and Frederik Schreck gave insight into the profitable effect a "survival analysis" of customers can have. Customer retention rates form the basis for value-oriented existing customer management.

  • Advanced analytics in the energy industry - application verification and dunning (Glenn Boeckxstaens, E-MAKS; Dr. Sebastian Ohse, Geospin)

Glenn Boeckxstaens (E-MAKS) and Dr. Sebastian Ohse (Geospin) reported together the successful cooperation between E-MAKS and Geospin. They developed and successfully deployed a special analysis with the aim of identifying bad debt losses in advance. In this way, bad debt losses can be counteracted in a targeted manner.

  • "Leon" the new digital employee of Braunschweiger Netz GmbH (Joachim Mund, KOM-DIA)

Joachim Mund from KOM-DIA, the digitalization agency of BS|ENERGY and Thüga, presented a special application for voicebots in his talk. For BS|NETZ, a voicebot was developed and implemented in a very short time, which receives and processes self-readings of customers' meter readings on the phone. Around 60 percent of customers have already taken advantage of the service. The digitization of customer channels through bots provides a win-win situation for both customers and companies.

A positive conclusion to the Meetup is also mirrored in the many positive feedbacks from the participants and speakers that reached us:

"Interesting and innovative topics in the age of digitalization"

"Very entertaining"

"Suggestions and food for thought. Good initiative!"

We were particularly pleased about the lively exchange between the participants and the speakers. We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all speakers and participants for their time and the enriching insights from their expert field!

We look forward to continuing to drive networking in the Data Science field with you!
